OV66 ID Checks & RNATT Declarations for Pets Travelling to Australia

Pet Travel Pass Nottingham are OV66 Authorised

What is OV66 Authorisation?

OV66 authorisation means a UK government vet (known as an Official Veterinarian or OV) has been given permission to to carry out ID verifications and other official checks for pets travelling to Australia. The new OV66 export process reduces the Australian post-entry quarantine time from 30 days to 10 days.

In order for pets to be eligible for reduced quarantine, a minimum of two OV66 vets must be involved in the export. Two OV66 ID verifications must be completed between 180 and 365 days before the pet arrives in Australia and the checks must be carried out by different OV66 vets from different practices. The rabies blood sample must be taken by an OV66 and the results of the test verified by an independent OV66 who completes an RNATT declaration; this is used to apply for your pets import permit. The final export health certificate must also be completed by an OV66; often this is done by an OV at the airport just before travel.

As Pet Travel Pass are an independent Official Veterinarian service and not affiliated with any veterinary practice, we are ideally placed to carry out OV66 ID verifications in addition to the RNATT declaration. Please note, we do not offer either the rabies vaccine or RNATT blood test.

How do I apply for an OV66 ID Verification?

Before applying, please check the microchip database entry for your pet is correct

The OV66 ID check can be considered as the first step in exporting your pet to Australia. In order for us to complete your pets ID verification, we need 2 pieces of paperwork:

  1. Our simple application form returned as a typed PDF to OV66@pettravelpass.uk
  2. Evidence of the microchip database entry for your pet attached to the same email. The name and address must match the details you will use on all export paperwork.

Please complete one application form and email per pet and title your email with your surname, first name, pet name and pet microchip number e.g. SMITH, JANE, TIDDLES, 123456789101112. Please use the name you will use to export your pet

What happens next?

Please note, we are a mobile pet travel certification service; we do not have a clinic or shop.

Once we have received your application form and evidence of your pet's microchip database registration, we will then arrange to meet up with you and your pet to scan your pets microchip and take a photo showing their distinguishing features and microchip number.

  • For dogs, we meet people at either Sherwood Business Park NG15 0EA or Giltbrook Retail Park NG16 2RP
  • For cats, we only offer this as a home visit service. Please email for availability including your postcode. There may be an additional charge to cover travel time.

Typically, this will be on a Thursday morning (NG16 2RP) or Saturday morning (NG15 0EA) but exact dates will vary depending on the time of year.

RNATT Declarations

To qualify for the 10 day post entry quarantine period, your pets RNATT (rabies blood test) declaration must be completed by a different OV66 to the one who takes the blood sample.  We are able to complete your pets RNATT declaration remotely as an independent OV66.

You will receive a scanned copy of the certified RNATT declaration which you can then use to apply for your pets import permit.
